PORTFOLIO > INSIDE STORIES > VINTAGE

A top floor 1930s apartment which hadn’t seem any changes since it had been built. We stuck to the original lay-out, but opened up a wall and changed a few doors. We added a skylight, a wood burner and a few funky 1950s wallpapers. For the rest, it pretends to be the same as when it was built, except that behind the walls we updated everything: new heating, new electricity, floor and ceiling insulation. The original kitchen has a new floor. The tiles are from the same company that made the original ones.

tiny flat on a famous canal in Amsterdam with amazing views. It had been modernised into a standard plasterboard box with lots of halogen spotlights. We took it back a few centuries. Behind the plasterboards were impressive beams. We added  salvaged double doors and oversized  herbarium wallpaper to go with the Kunstkammer feel. Mini-sized furniture, to go with the theme and the low ceilings, was bought at auction. The cushions and curtains were made to measure.
